1) How will I know what my child is doing each day at the Summer Program?
A note will go home each day detailing specific activities and highlights from the day. We hope that this assists you in asking your child about their day at the summer program and hearing firsthand about your child's experience.
2) Can my child attend multiple weeks?
Absolutely! We welcome students to come multiple weeks.
3) Do you accept word of mouth referrals?
Referring your friends and family is the highest compliment to us.
4) What if my preferred week is full?
We will contact you if the week that you were looking to register for has already been filled. In that event, we are happy to keep your child's name on our Waiting List in case another spot opens up.
5) Is there a chance that a week of the summer program could be cancelled?
Yes, if not enough people register for a given week, it is possible that we may be forced to cancel that week. You would be contacted no later than June 15th. In the event that we are forced to cancel a certain week camp, your 50% deposit will be refunded to you.
6) If my child is sick or my family decides to take a vacation during the week that we registered, can I get a refund?
No refunds are given. Our staffing, supplies, and activities are based on the number of campers signed up by the deadline. Extenuating circumstances can be discussed on a case by case basis.
Regarding illness, our focus is to maintain a healthy environment for all of our children. If your child becomes sick at camp, we will contact you or the emergency contact person listed on your registration form for immediate pick-up. We ask that your child must be symptom free for a 24-hour period before returning to the summer program. This goes for fever (100 degrees or higher), vomiting, diarrhea, rash, head lice, pink eye, etc. Thank you for your diligence in supporting our healthy environment for all!
7) What are my payment options?
We accept personal checks and credit cards as payment. We are happy to work with you to work out a payment plan that allows you to pay for camp in increments (to be paid in full by camp start date). A 50% non-refundable deposit is due at time of registration. On your registration form please indicate your preferred method of payment. We will contact you regarding your payment with our mailing address (for checks) and/or send you an invoice (for credit cards).
8) What is my session fee put towards?
Our summer program is staffed with one Speech Language Pathologist and one Physical Education teacher. Please see our summer program bios for a description of our staff. We pride ourselves in keeping the student teacher ratio low, to ensure plenty of individualized attention for each child. Snacks, supplies, and materials are also included in the price of the summer program.
9) Does my child need to be potty trained to attend Signs & Sounds Summer Program?
No, not all children will be potty trained. If your child is not potty trained, please indicate that on your application, and plan to send your child's diapers or underwear as well as backup clothes, in case he/she has an accident. Having our own child, we are comfortable with changing diapers and the significance of this important milestone (toilet training). We are happy to support the toileting needs of our children.
10) What does my child need to bring each day?
Your child should bring a backpack/bag with lunch and a drink, sun block, and an extra set of clothes. If your child is not yet potty trained, we ask that you provide his/her diapers or underwear, as well as a back-up change of clothes.
If you prefer a list:
- bag or backpack
- lunch & drink
- sunblock
- extra clothes
- diapers or underwear, if toileting support is needed
11) If my child is young and I want to stay for part of the summer program experience, is that permitted?
We do not encourage parent participation during the hours of the summer program. We believe that your child will have the best opportunity to grow and learn independently in our small group setting.
12) Can I be informed of all food items (snacks, cooking/baking activities)? What if my child has a food allergy?
Yes! If your child has food allergies or is a picky eater, please contact us to let us know and be sure to include that information in your camp registration. Additionally, please contact us if you would like to hear about the planned food items for your child's camp week.
13) Does my child need to have regular Speech/Language Therapy needs in order to sign up for Signs & Sounds Summer Program?
All children are welcome to participate in our summer program. If your child does receive Speech/Language services regularly, please let us know their target goals and we would be happy to support their development. We are not keeping individualized data, as would be done in speech language therapy. We pride ourselves on providing a language rich environment and fostering communication skills at each child's individual level.
14) Will my child learn sign language at your camp?
As you can tell from our name, Signs & Sounds Speech Therapy LLC, we are fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). We will integrate some sign language vocabulary into our lessons each week at Signs & Sounds Summer Program. We encourage you to ask your child about any new vocabulary words (verbal or signed) that they have learned at the summer program!
If you have additional questions that were not addressed above, please contact Stephanie L. Poumade, Signs & Sounds Speech Therapy LLC's director, at signsandsoundsllc@gmail.com or 703-505-1652.
